Christ Church began on April 10, 1897, when a group of Episcopalians gathered in the home of Charles H. Crowe of East Stroudsburg, PA, to celebrate Palm Sunday.

We invite volunteers (youth and adult) to serve at the 8:00, 10:15, and Saturday night services. Positions available include acolyte, chalice bearer, usher, lay eucharistic minister, worship leader, and music/choral soloist.

There are 21 sessions to choose from at Gather 24, and the day includes lunch, hearing from Bishops, worship, and lots more. The $25 registration fee helps offset the event site cost, meals and snacks, prizes, and other event costs (scholarships are available for those with need).

This Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday, Christ Episcopal Church celebrated the resurrection power of Jesus with beautiful people, spaces, and liturgies.

Congratulations to five of our beloved, Joyce, Sabrina, Nadine, Ilyra, and Lorelai who were baptized this weekend.

Thank you to the following for making all of this possible:
- Reverend Sidnie and Father Nick, for celebrating and preaching
-all our readers, altar servers and ushers
- Joyce, for working behind the scenes to ensure that our bulletins and readings were printed and folded
-Bell choir for their beautiful anthem
- Bethann, for rehearsing with the choir and soloists for months to perfect our hymns and anthems
- The choir, for rehearsing before and singing at six liturgies this past week
- Louise, for singing the Via Dolorosa on Maundy Thursday
- James, for chanting the Exsultet at the Easter Vigil
-Marcos and his family for helping participant in the liturgies. Especially, live-streaming and lighting for our services.
- Chris, Maryann, Patti, Martha, and the altar guild, along with Wil, Tom, Cheryl, and James, for helping Fr Bruce prepare the church
- Meghan, Sabrina, Debby, and Cheryl, for helping with the Easter Egg Hunt and the Coffee Hour

Holy Saturday March 30th (8pm)
The Easter Vigil, possibly the most beautiful service of the church year, begins with a fire kindled in the courtyard to light the paschal candle. After processing into the church, the service starts in darkness as each person lights their candle from the paschal candle. We read of God's saving work in history and renew our baptismal covenant before joyfully celebrating Easter with the lighting of the altar candles and worship area, and singing and ringing of bells. The service takes us from death to new life, and it is a truly unique Easter experience.
-This year we will welcome 3 newly baptized members into the body of Christ
in this lovely service.

-Contemplative Stations of the Cross at CEC 7pm
The Friday before Easter Day, on which the church remembers the
crucifixion of Jesus. It is a day of fasting and special acts of discipline and
self-denial (BCP, p. 17). Traditionally this has been understood to mean
fasting and participation in prayer and worship at some time during the day.
In the early church candidates for baptism, joined by others, fasted for a day
or two before the Paschal feast. In the west the first of those days eventually
acquired the character of historical reenactment of the passion and death of
Christ. The liturgy of the day includes John’s account of the Passion gospel,
a solemn form of intercession known as the solemn collects (dating from
ancient Rome), and optional devotions before the cross (commonly known
as the veneration of the cross).
This year we are asking folks fast in solidarity with the Palestinians
who are staving and for peace in the Middle East. Our Good Friday
Collection at both services will go to The Episcopal Province of
Jerusalem. Please consider a day of fast as your medical health can
allow and give to this great cause at one of our services on Good
Friday.

The Thursday of Holy Week. It is part of
the Triduum, or three holy days before
Easter. It is believed the term “maundy” is
derived from the Latin for Jesus’ new
command to love one another (mandate
novum), or possibly the verb “to wash”
(mundo). This is the day we follow the
example of Jesus by offering ourselves in love and humbly serving one
another. A celebration of servant ministry; washing of feet, celebration of
priesthood, and the Eucharist. What to expect? Foot washing, Altar of
Repose, Stripping the Altar, and The Watch.
